Dear Readers, As the crisp air of autumn drifts into the Tennessee Valley, I am delighted to welcome you to the Fall issue of Explore Chattanooga Magazine —your guide to discovering our city in its most vibrant and colorful season. This is when Chattanooga’s iconic “Scenic City” reputation shines brightest: ridgelines blaze with foliage, the Tennessee River glows under golden light, and every neighborhood district reveals its own distinctive autumnal charm. Fall in Chattanooga offers an extraordinary calendar of events that blend music, competition, and seasonal wonder. In late September, bluegrass takes center stage as the IBMA World of Bluegrass Festival fills the city with five days of pure Americana. October brings the beloved 3 Sisters Bluegrass Festival along the riverfront and the lively traditions of Oktoberfest at the Chattanooga Market, where local flavors, artisans, and fall festivities create a true community celebration. For those drawn to endurance and excitement, Chattanooga sets the stage for some of the season’s most thrilling competitions. The IRONMAN Chattanooga triathlon returns September 28, followed by the 7 Bridges Marathon on October 19. Then, on November 1–2, the mighty Head of the Hooch Regatta, one of the nation’s largest rowing events, races down the scenic Tennessee River. Beyond events, the natural beauty of Chattanooga is irresistible. Stand atop Lookout Mountain for sweeping views at Rock City, venture underground to Ruby Falls, or ride the historic Incline Railway for an unforgettable perspective. Closer to town, the Tennessee Riverwalk, Coolidge Park, and Stringer’s Ridge invite exploration at a slower pace. Distinct neighborhoods like the NorthShore, Bluff View Art District, and the Southside pulse with galleries, boutiques, and one-of-a-kind dining. Speaking of dining, Chattanooga’s culinary scene continues to draw national acclaim. From elevated Southern cuisine in the West Village to innovative fare at Zaya Korean Steakhouse, plus cozy cafés, lively bars, and regional specialties sprinkled across the city, there’s something to satisfy every palate. Our city’s vibrancy has not gone unnoticed. Condé Nast Traveler named Chattanooga one of America’s Best Food Cities, while Forbes , Outside , Southern Living , and The New York Times have celebrated its natural beauty, outdoor adventure, and urban revitalization. So, slip into your favorite sweater, sip a pumpkin-spiced latte, and immerse yourself in Chattanooga’s autumn palette. Here, fall isn’t just a season—it’s an experience. Warm regards,

ROCK CITY’S ENCHANTED PUMPKIN PATCH FALL MAGIC, NO FRIGHT.
T his Fall, Rock City will transform into a bewitched garden for an all-new, family-friendly event called the Enchanted Pumpkin Patch. For the first time visitors can experience the Enchanted Trail in Halloween splendor, September 26 through Halloween night, October 31. It’s the perfect time to celebrate the season’s shift—when crisp mountain air and vibrant leaves intertwine with Rock City’s custom-made autumn décor. Amid the cool fall air and rustling of bright-colored canopies, Rock City’s winding stone passages and the mystical world of Fairyland Caverns create a spectacular backdrop for Halloween fun. The over half-mile trail will glow beneath orange and purple LED lights, while dangling Jack-O’-Lanterns of every size cast a soft flickering glow along your path. Shadows dance across the stones as the gardens slip into a playful Halloween glow—spooky, but never scary. It’s as if Rock City’s legendary stone witch, Galoochee, has cast a whimsical spell over the mountaintop, enchanting every corner with flickering pumpkins, glowing lanterns, and autumn magic. Expect the spirit of the season to come to life in fun and magical ways, from over a thousand glowing pumpkins to remarkable large scale displays. Keep an eye out for an 18-foot scarecrow standing
guard—and you might even wander beneath giant spiderwebs along the twisting trails. Families can explore it all knowing the enchant ment is all in good fun. Above the deep and mysterious chasms, Legacy Lane is bustling with autumn activities. Young ones will find their thrills on the Spooky Town Tractor Hay Bale Maze at the Hearth Pavilion and magic shows take the stage on the first and last weekends of Octo ber at the Critter Classroom. Expect other fun rotating surprises throughout the season! Savor the taste of fall with hot apple cider along with a cinnamon apple funnel cake or s’mores bites. Swing by the Fudge Kitchen for seasonal pumpkin spice fudge, rice krispy treats and other spooky sweets. The season’s sights and tastes pairs perfectly with its folksy sounds, with fiddler Owen Saunders—Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.—and Rock City-legendary banjo player Matt Downer—Thursdays through Tuesdays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Rock City’s Enchanted Pumpkin Patch is open on weeknights until 9:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday until 10:30 p.m. Take a twilight or daytime stroll through the gardens—if you dare—for a whimsical Halloween adventure unlike any other.

SHARK KINGDOM 3D AT THE TENNESSEE AQUARIUM IMAX THEATER
I f there’s one screen in Chattanooga that can transport you across the planet in an instant, it’s the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX® 3D Theater. With its towering, six-story screen and dual 4K laser projection system, this is moviegoing at its most immersive—crisp, luminous images paired with audio that seems to ripple right through you. The theater’s newest daily feature, Shark Kingdom 3D , plunges audiences into the hidden world of the ocean’s top predators. Guided by conservationists Jess Cramp, Liv Rose, and Cristina Zenato, the film explores some of the most breathtaking diving destinations on Earth. From drifting alongside Oceanic Whitetip Sharks in the South Pacific to intimate encounters with reef sharks in the Bahamas, the film captures sharks in their natural element— graceful, powerful, and essential to the health of our oceans. Filmmaker Matt Tomaszewski describes the thrill of bringing sharks to the IMAX giant screen: “There are a lot of details in terms of their behavior and also their physiology that you don’t get to see on a normal TV screen. To be able to show the grandeur and detail of some of these amazing creatures on the giant screen was really exciting.” His hope is that viewers will leave with fresh eyes— seeing sharks not as menacing silhouettes, but as vital guardians of the marine ecosystem. Each species featured in Shark Kingdom 3D has its own story to tell: great whites roaming the wild coasts of New Zealand, whaler sharks adapting to life alongside Australian fishermen, blacktip reef sharks slipping between Tahitian mangroves and the open sea. Through sweeping visuals and immersive storytelling, audiences discover how these “super senses” allow sharks to thrive—and how our futures are linked to theirs.
Beyond Shark Kingdom , the IMAX Theater also shines after dark with a lineup of special screenings and Hollywood blockbusters. This fall, movie lovers can settle into the massive auditorium for classics and new releases alike, from Jaws: 50th Anniversary to Tron: Ares and Wicked: For Good. Whether you’re an ocean enthusiast, a family seeking adventure, or simply a traveler drawn to big-screen spectacle, the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX 3D Theater offers a cinematic voyage that’s every bit as memorable as the landscapes it showcases. Step inside, put on your 3D glasses, and prepare to see sharks—and the world’s oceans—in a whole new light. Check tnaqua.org/imax for more films, schedules and tickets.
