IMAX 3D THEATER Animal Kingdom: A Tale of Six Families

Get up close with a rich cast of amazing creatures in Animal Kingdom 3D.

Summer 2024

T hough they define life for so many of us, familial bonds aren’t an exclusively human notion. Viewers can get to know some of the most fascinating members of Earth’s family tree and explore the bonds that connect all living things on our planet through an exciting new giant screen film now showing at the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX 3D Theater. Animal Kingdom: A Tale of Six Families 3D . In Animal Kingdom 3D , audiences embark on a fun-filled adventure that sees them swooping across the sweltering African savannah, trekking through dense, snowy forests, and plunging into vast coral reefs. Along the way, they’ll explore animals’ wild relationships as they meet a colorful cast of soaring birds, hard working insects, scale-armored fish, remarkable mammals, and cold-blooded reptiles and amphibians. Created by the filmmakers of Sea Lions: Life by a Whisker 3D, Animal Kingdom is a light-hearted production that aims to inspire a wonder for the natural world in everyone, especially younger viewers. “While watching this film, we want the viewer to step into Animal Kingdom and experience a sense of fun, warmth, wonder, and also a sense of hope for its future,” directors Paula Grusovin and Amelia McCarten say in the film’s production notes. “We wanted the viewer

to understand and celebrate that each and every creature in the Animal Kingdom has a role to play — including us!” On their joyful adventure across our planet, viewers will learn about oddball Dung Beetles, who spend their lives rolling the leavings of larger animals into balls for use as food. They will also be amused by the waddling antics of King Penguins and meet strong elephant matriarchs that lead their family herds across the African savanna. Through it all, viewers will enjoy stunning (and adorable) up close 3D footage that leaps out from the IMAX Theater’s 89-foot wide screen. As the filmmakers dive with whales, viewers will also hear their majestic calls surrounding them, courtesy of the theater’s state-of-the-art, 12-channel audio system. “It’s our hope that our film, Animal Kingdom , can reignite a passion for the natural world and the creatures within it,” Grusovin and McCarten say. “[We want to] empower our little people to celebrate the fact that we are not separate from the animal kingdom. … We are part of it.” For a screening schedule and advance ticket purchases, visit tnaqua.org/imax/ Open every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas, the Aquarium and IMAX are accessible to people with disabilities.

THE JOY OF Discovery

FALL 2024

R emember the days of childhood wonder? Everything appeared larger than life, childhood imagination was filled with possibilities, and the best days were spent exploring outdoors. Fast-forward to adulthood, and well, life is often complicated and loud. Take a pause, reconnect to the joy of discovery, and let a dose of wonder re-invigorate your soul. Science shows there are tangible physical and mental health benefits to spending time outdoors. Autumn in Chattanooga brings cooler temperatures, endless hues of vibrant fall foliage, unmatched outdoor activities, affordable hotel rates, and no summer tourist crowds. This season is ideal for hitting your reset button while experiencing the best of the Scenic City. Get Immersed in Nature. Literally! Go inside Lookout Mountain and see Ruby Falls, the tallest underground waterfall open to the public in the United States. Park visitors descend 260 feet by glass-front elevator into the cavern hidden inside the mountain and take a guided walk along cavern trail, passing remarkable ancient geological formations on the way to the thundering waterfall. The one mile round trip walk on a paved trail is incredibly scenic in the 30-million-year-old cavern. The rare experience of being surrounded by millions of years of nature created one drop of water at a time, changes your perspective. Standing near the towering waterfall brings back treasured feelings from childhood of being small and awestruck by a big world full of possibilities. Pick Your Adventure The park feels like it’s a world apart, but Ruby Falls is only 4-miles from downtown Chattanooga. With four types of cave adventures offered, you are sure to find the right match for your schedule, interests, and personality. Options include the express Cave Walk to the Waterfall , after-hours Lantern Tours , and early-access Gentle Walking Tours and History Tours . Plus, autumn brings seasonal Ghost Walk Lantern Tours, on select nights. See Forever from Scenic Overlooks The nature park also features gliding woodland ziplines, award-winning special events, scenic overlooks with unmatched views of the Cumberland Plateau and Tennessee River, a historic castle, luxury treehouse lodging, and a café featuring local craft beer and a seasonal menu. Nature’s Timeless Wonder The park’s yearlong celebration of the 95 th anniversary of the discovery of the cave and waterfall continues through October with special activities. Recently named 2024 Attraction of the Year, Ruby Falls has long been a must-see destination and considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world. Visitors come away with cherished memories of an unforgettable experience in nature. Open Daily. Plan your visit and purchase tickets at rubyfalls.com.
