Color play Scouring the resort collections to find pieces to wear now can be a challenge, but thankfully beautiful furs in rich colors were a standout theme of the season

Designer Jason Wu and Bottega Veneta’s creative director Tomas Maier had winter on their minds when they presented light-pink furs, which will pop against the snow and the inevitable sea of black coats. Maier says he began designing with “an energizing color palette intended to offset the seasonal weather”. The long shearling jacket at Bottega Veneta is collarless, a perfect opportunity to color-block with a turtleneck or accessorize with a contrasting scarf. Wu’s custom-dyed sheared shadow fox is feminine armor for an arctic winter. The sumptuous coat was shown as a monochrome look accessorized with his Diane bag and a belt – both in blossom pink – to enhance the silhouette. Also playing with color were Michael Kors and Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele , who showcased their fur expertise by designing bold, often geometric patterns in their collections. Furrier Pologeorgis makes each coat by hand in a New York studio for Michael Kors. A favorite is the coral, black and caramel hexagon intarsia mink, which takes artisans several days to make. For his second collection for Gucci , Michele staged a runway show in New York and continued with the retro, eccentric direction presented in his fall collection. Alongside the pussy-bow blouses, vintage colors and florals, several vibrant furs walked the runway, including a yellow astrakhan cropped jacket and a showstopper of a blue and red diamond inlay mink coat (pictured).
