Shear perfection

A rugged suede jacket, luxurious biker jacket or sophisticated peacoat – this season, designers used shearling in a wide array of styles to suit any occasion Tom Ford presented perhaps the perfect jacket for a weekend in the country. A bit retro in styling, but still modern and wearable, the 1970s-inspired tan suede and cream shearling jacket is stylish and ready for adventure. Belstaff, well known for its excellent leather pieces, featured the Reynolds arctic jacket in its collection. The smooth leather is lined and trimmed with cream shearling. The heavyweight jacket looks like it came straight out of a movie. Pair with aviators to channel Top Gun . For a more city-appropriate look, Dior Homme creative director Kris Van Assche presented a riff on new business attire, pairing a luxurious leather biker jacket with removable shearling collar with wide trousers, sweater, shirt and tie. Replacing the blazer with a leather perfecto allows for a more relaxed look. At Louis Vuitton, men’s artistic director Kim Jones showed a shearling peacoat with laser-etched pattern from an original print from Christopher Nemeth’s design archives. The subtle pattern gives visual interest and breaks up what could be a bulky coat, as well as highlighting Vuitton’s incredible craftsmanship and paying homage to one of Jones’s favorite designers and artists.

ONE TO WATCH

Young designer Brett Johnson’s eponymous line also hit on the shearling trend. The tightly edited collection focuses on outerwear and this season added knitwear. We love the tailored navy wool and cashmere trench coat with shearling collar. $1,695, neimanmarcus.com
