Object of desire

Monticello humidor

Our first thought when we saw Monticello was “this is the craziest humidor we’ve ever seen”. It’s possibly the maddest humidor conceivable. But our second thought was “we want one”. Designed by Viscount Linley, furniture-maker and chairman of Christie’s (interviewed on page 124), it is fashioned from sycamore, with space for almost 200 cigars and secret drawers for stowing cigar accessories. The house itself is a replica of Monticello, the former home of President Jefferson, but Linley can turn pretty much any building into an exquisite humidor. To date he has created miniature replicas of the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, plus 100 other houses and palaces for customers including Sir Elton John. $75,120, davidlinley.com
