South Bank This shot was taken from the South Bank, just past Borough Market. It really shows the ever-evolving cityscape of London. The walk from here towards Westminster is one of the most magical in London – and is a great jogging route. southbanklondon.com

Tate Modern This gallery is home to some of the world’s best modern art collections, though the turbine hall (pictured) is an architectural wonder in its own right – and is a peaceful place to sit and contemplate. I also like the member’s club, which has some of the best views in London and allows you to preview exhibitions. tate.org.uk/modern

Leadenhall Market This market dates back to the 14th century. The current building, with its intricate glass and steel ceiling, designed by Sir Horace Jones, reminds me of Italian covered markets. leadenhallmarket.co.uk

Hazlitt’s Hotel This amazing hotel, styled like an 18th century townhouse, is right in the heart of Soho. Even so it’s utterly tranquil and is renowned for its library, which contains works from past guests. hazlittshotel.com
