Paxton & Whitfield This store is 250 years old and specializes in artisanal cheeses. Winston Churchill once said: “a gentleman only buys his cheese at Paxton &Whitfield”. It’s on Jermyn Street, also home to some of London’s finest tailors. paxtonandwhitfield.co.uk

Sweetings This is probably the oldest fish restaurant in London and it is still in its original state. It serves traditional seafood dishes such as devils on horseback (oysters and prunes). It’s popular among City workers but beware, it is closed on the weekend. sweetingsrestaurant.co.uk

The member’s club at the Tate Modern has some of the best views in London and it also allows you to preview exhibitions

City of London I love the quirky mix of modern and traditional in the City. This is Threadneedle Street, just behind the Bank of England and near Gucci, Bulgari and great one-off stores like Smoker’s Paradise. smokersparadiselondon.co.uk

St John The original St John restaurant in Farringdon is a must for meat lovers. Co-founder Fergus Henderson (pictured) came up with the nose-to-tail concept, where every part of the animal is used. The food is brilliantly simple and the atmosphere, founders and staff are eccentric in the best way. stjohngroup.uk.com
