WELCOME THE PRIVATE JET LIFESTYLE MAGAZINE
We’re all familiar with the idea that we are what we eat; that physical and mental health is dictated by the food we consume. Here at Elite Traveler, we like to take things further. These days it seems to us that where you eat is at least as important in defining your style and who you are. With this in mind, the Elite Traveler 100 Top Restaurants is a unique listing, based not on the opinions of a handful of critics, but on those of thousands of private jet travelers. Top chefs love our Top 100. They continually tell us that it means more because it’s voted on by real diners and paying guests. This year, there’s evidence that the US is experiencing a gastronomic boom. See page 68 for more details. Elsewhere in this issue, there are rewards to be had for putting in a bit of effort. Whether that’s trekking the hard way to see gorillas in Africa, or cycling up one of the toughest stages on the Tour de France, naturally, we help you do this in comfort and style. If there’s a restaurant you think we (you) missed off our list, or a travel adventure to be covered, drop us an email at editorial@elitetraveler.com.
Elite Traveler tip One signature of the Elite Traveler editorial has been our tireless pursuit of the inside intelligence that makes life easier. Watch out for this symbol throughout.

So shooting the restaurants and hot spots of her town for Elite Traveler was a dream job. See where Askayo, who also shoots for Elle Decor , Monocle and Travel + Leisure, hangs out on page 123.
Journalist Nick Walton New Zealand-born Nick Walton is the travel editor of the South China Morning Post . When not camping in Antarctica or dancing at the Vienna Opera, he can be found exploring the markets and country parks of his adopted home city, Hong Kong. He had the enviable task of testing that city’s top suites for our regular top suites feature on page 128.

Journalist and stylist Laurie Brookins has interviewed many of the top names in fashion design; Karl Lagerfeld, Jean Paul Gaultier, Alexander McQueen and Miuccia Prada, to name but a few. Her understanding of the artistic sensibilities and craft that drive the fashion industry informs her feature on art as fashion on page 98.
As associate editor of The Times , British foreign correspondent Martin Fletcher has reported from Syria, Iraq and Somalia. For Elite Traveler he ventured into the untamed heart of Africa, discovering an untouched wilderness – and an experience of a lifetime – in the Democratic Republic of Congo, on page 92.
Born in the US but now living in Berlin, Williams now considers herself a bona fide German. She writes about the city for the New York Times and Travel + Leisure and picks its most happening hang-outs and coolest
Osborne has written about her passion for two-wheeled transport for Peloton Magazine , Cyclist Magazine and The Guardian so her attempt at Mont Ventoux, with just a bit of help from luxe bike outfit Rapha (page 88), posed little problem. “I still beat all the men in the group to the top,” she says of her challenge to conquer one of the Tour de France’s most iconic climbs.

Gold Brikk
Brikk’s hallmark is the super-luxury “tech-bling” makeover, usually with a little added sparkle. One of its more eye-popping recent efforts is this Nikon camera, finished in 24 karat yellow gold, with stingray leather around the focus and zoom rings, flash area and grip. Only 77 are being made, so if you want to snap one up, you’d better act quickly. The whole kit comprises a gold-plated Nikon Df body, a Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8 lens (with gold-plated lens cap and lens hood, of course) together with the usual charger, cables and software. Best of all, the kit comes beautifully packed into a Zero Halliburton camera case that’s also dripping in 24 karat gold. $57,995 brikk.com

The RL Automotive
Skeleton Model 45mm timepiece pays homage to the designer’s classic Bugatti with its blasted black steel dial and use of polished wood
Driven by perfection
The relationship between horological endeavour and high-end automobiles is a road well-traveled. Take Breitling’s long-standing partnership with Bentley, for instance. It’s now 12 years and counting. Then there’s Hublot and Ferrari, Jaeger-LeCoultre and AstonMartin, Bremont and Jaguar, Parmigiani and Bugatti. The latter enterprise, established in 2004, is of particular relevance to Ralph Lauren’s new flagship watch, the RL Automotive Skeleton Model 45mm, given that the design is directly inspired by the fashion mogul’s own 1938 Bugatti 57SC Atlantic Coupé, a car widely considered to be the jewel of his much-coveted private collection of more than 60 classic automobiles. The most striking facet of this skeletonized watch is a material commonly found in cars of this vintage and pedigree: encasing the shot-blasted black steel dial is a grained amboyna burl wood bezel modeled on the Bugatti’s steering wheel. In stark contrast to the black and gold detailing of the exposed face – from the oxidized, sword-shaped hands to the oversized balance wheel oscillating at 18,000 vibrations per hour – this is Lauren’s most ambitious watch to date, and also the first to feature an open- worked movement, the hand-wound Caliber RL1967. $35,000 ralphlauren.com RALPH LAUREN’S LATEST FINE TIMEPIECE IS A PAEAN TO THE AMERICAN STYLE ICON’S GREAT PASSION – CLASSIC CARS

The Museum Pocket Watch is an antique-style watch based around the restored inner parts of an 18th century Jaquet Droz timepiece.
BRAND PROFILE/// JAQUET DROZ
Few watchmakers can claim to match the heritage of this manufacture in the Swiss city of La Chaux-de-Fonds. Established in 1721, its founder – Pierre Jaquet Droz – was not merely an artisan watchmaker, but a renowned inventor of complex automata. In fact, such was the level of innovation exhibited by his machines they have since been credited as the earliest-known examples of working computers. Today, Pierre’s pioneering spirit lives on through a collection of haute horology and intricately executed craftsmanship. jaquet-droz.com

Show offs
This year’s Baselworld fair exhibited an array of horological showmanship, not least from niche label MCT (Manufacture Contemporaine du Temps), whose Frequential One F110 features a squared-off 42mm case design cast from grade-5 DLC-coated titanium and a raised balance wheel positioned in the center of the watch face. Breguet’s Tradition 7097 Automatique Seconde Rétrograde, meanwhile, shows a heritage brand embracing thoroughly 21st century methods. The outcome is something akin to an inverted design, from its retrograde second hand to the miniaturized guilloché dial, which leaves ample space for the other features. Louis Vuitton’s watch arm continues to quietly gain credibility with the release of three Tambour éVolution dual-time models in stealth black, the most appealing of which, the Spin Time GMT, indicates the second time zone via a series of tiny rotating cubes. mctwatches.com, breguet.com, louisvuitton.com

Top yacht Ferretti 750
Richard Burton, Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren and, more recently, Jennifer Lopez have all been spotted sunning themselves on Ferretti decks. And it has racing pedigree, too, winning 1994’s Class 1 Offshore World Championship. Two decades on, Italian yacht builder Ferretti is still top of the heap. Its latest offering, the Ferretti 750, took center stage at this year’s Dusseldorf International Boat Show. Spanning 22 meters, with a beam of 5.7 meters, the 750 is characterised by sporty, but elegant lines. An optional set-up pushes the top speed up to 32.5 knots (standard 30) and the sundeck comes in two options, with a roll-bar and Bimini top or a hard-top and awning. Another key feature is a long, electronically-operated swimming platform that can be lowered half a meter below the surface. But what also sets Ferretti, arguably one of the world’s finest yacht makers, apart is its anti-rolling gyro technology, which reduces the effects of waves. All this adds up to a slick exterior, plus a super smooth ride. $3.56m, boats-barcos.com

other and against their successors from the current range. The pick of the driving experiences is the all-day “Grace and Pace Experience” ($3,000), which involves a whole day, during which you will be driving a total of nine great Jaguars, including classics from the 1950s (with potentially both classic C-Types and D-Types on offer), as well as the more up-to-date XKR-S GT and F-Type R. All the driving takes place on a specially prepared private test facility, with instructors and experts on hand to help you get the most from the day. If you can tear yourself away from the track, lunch is an (almost) equally enjoyable, luxurious affair at the nearby Orange Tree restaurant. Learn your skills here, then
Start almost any sentimental classic car enthusiast running on the subject of a favorite car and it won’t be long before they name a Jaguar. When it comes to picking a favorite, many will quickly opt for the classic, long, sweeping lines of that symbol of stylish Swinging 1960s London, the E-Type. But the more serious-minded might well opt for some of the earlier, more successful racing Jaguars, which dominated the world’s best circuits in the 1950s. This twin road and track heritage has been well preserved by Jaguar (and some would argue so has the myth). Now all this carefully curated past is open for the world (or at least those prepared to pay) to enjoy. Thanks to a carefully marshalled program of Jaguar heritage track days, those classic car enthusiasts can get behind the wheel of their favorite Jaguar, and even measure them against each

Robert Redford in The Great Gatsby shows how to carry off the cream suit with style
Cream of the crop
If last summer’s predilection for whiter-than-white menswear hinted at an antipathy towards the bold primary colours of recent resort lines, 2015 is proving that the mood for neutral tones over a bolder aesthetic is here to stay. As the coming months look set to see more than their fair share of cream hues, the good news is this is far removed from the days of crumpled, beige, linen suits, jet-lagged Panama hats or the Man from Del Monte. Themood for neutral tones over a bolder aesthetic is here to stay Gieves & Hawkes’s latest collection, evoking English summers spent by the sea, exemplifies creative director Jason Basmajian’s talent for deftly reinterpreting classic tailoring to create something more captivating. The Savile Row stalwart’s summer eveningwear includes a one-button shawl-collar suit in cream Irish linen with covered buttons and a simple, spotted cream pocket square underlining its razor-sharp credentials. At Canali, meanwhile, the focus of the capsule collection is on soft, comfortable lines that blend the precision of bespoke tailoring with the unstructured elegance of leisurewear. Its single- and double-breasted suit jackets feature fine checks or stripes while the trousers are enhanced by an exaggerated, three-inch cuff. Bottega Veneta’s look is more relaxed, with its sandy tones, high- waisted cotton trousers and asymmetric zip jackets. But creative director Tomas Maier’s carefully engineered silhouettes and luxe fabrics raise this collection above the level of mere weekend lounge gear. gievesandhawkes.com, canali.com, bottegaveneta.com

1 COLOGNE INDÉLÉBILE MALLE Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle is leading the pack with Cologne Indélébile. Creator Dominique Ropion overhauled the scent by juxtaposing the conventional (orange blossom, bergamot) with the unexpected (musks and narcissus). The result is sexy, yet refined. $229 for 100ml fredericmalle.com

ANDERSON’S WOVEN BELT
With its clean, uplifting notes, eau de cologne is a warm-weather staple for men. The only downside? No matter how many new variants come to market, few perfumers stray from the formula of citrus oils (typically lemon, bergamot and neroli) blended with herbal accords of lavender, rosemary and thyme. Yet this summer, there is a refreshing new attitude, as shown by the three colognes we sniffed out. Colognial days
Don’t be fooled by the Anglophile name of this specialist Italian beltmaker. The founder, the late Carlo Valenti, was merely extremely appreciative of traditional British tailoring. Although the Parma-based company specializes in a variety of handmade styles, it is the brand’s woven Multicolor Stretch Belt (available in a palette of 60 different combinations) where it truly excels. With no permanent belt holes, each belt can be subtly adjusted to accommodate the excesses of those long, delicious, Mediterranean lunches. $155, mrporter.com

Goddess of minimal Lanvin
Move over LBD, this spring it is all about the LWD. No longer confined to angelic and bridal, the little white dress might even be more versatile than most women’s traditional black go-to garment. Designers sent iterations of the LWD down the runway that varied from dangerously sexy (Givenchy) to perfectly minimal (Christian Dior and Lanvin). One of the strongest statements this season came from Nicolas Ghesquière at Louis Vuitton. His Victorian-inspired, long-sleeved minidress with woven black collar nods to the past, but embraces ultra-modern materials and techniques. Victoriana was also an influence for ErdemMoralioglu, whose broderie anglaise apron dress epitomized subversive propriety.
Valentino designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli created an exquisite cut-out dress, which is not for the faint of heart, and over at Christian Dior, Raf Simons showed a modern, minimal version paired with textured knit shoes. Folklore and boho-chic hit new heights in Clare Waight Keller’s elegant collection at Chloé, with a tailored lace shirt dress with classic written all over it. At Lanvin, Alber Elbaz elevated a basic white tee by transforming it into a beautiful long dress, accessorized with a python belt. And Riccardo Tisci brought sexy to Givenchy this season. Among this strong, take-no-prisoners show was model Cara Delevigne, stomping down the runway in a white, lace-ruffled dress and over-the-knee, black leather boots, pairing naughty and nice.
