If last summer’s predilection for whiter-than-white menswear hinted at an antipathy towards the bold primary colours of recent resort lines, 2015 is proving that the mood for neutral tones over a bolder aesthetic is here to stay. As the coming months look set to see more than their fair share of cream hues, the good news is this is far removed from the days of crumpled, beige, linen suits, jet-lagged Panama hats or the Man from Del Monte. Themood for neutral tones over a bolder aesthetic is here to stay Gieves & Hawkes’s latest collection, evoking English summers spent by the sea, exemplifies creative director Jason Basmajian’s talent for deftly reinterpreting classic tailoring to create something more captivating. The Savile Row stalwart’s summer eveningwear includes a one-button shawl-collar suit in cream Irish linen with covered buttons and a simple, spotted cream pocket square underlining its razor-sharp credentials. At Canali, meanwhile, the focus of the capsule collection is on soft, comfortable lines that blend the precision of bespoke tailoring with the unstructured elegance of leisurewear. Its single- and double-breasted suit jackets feature fine checks or stripes while the trousers are enhanced by an exaggerated, three-inch cuff. Bottega Veneta’s look is more relaxed, with its sandy tones, high- waisted cotton trousers and asymmetric zip jackets.
