Aman Suite / Aman In Tokyo, space is luxury. By that measure Japan’s first Aman-brand property is also its most decadent. The lobby is grand in scale yet subdued in tone, and the rooms are designed with few walls to create fluid spaces. The 1,689 sq ft Aman Suite has floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Imperial Palace gardens. On clear days, Mount Fuji stands proudly on the horizon. The suite has one bedroom and a large living area, and the en suite bathroom has a large Japanese-style tub with a view (see round picture above). There are traditional communal hot spring baths connected to the spa plus a stunning pool. From $1,600 a night aman.com

Terrace Suite / Palace Hotel While other properties boast about their views, the Palace Hotel provides guests with the real outdoors. The Terrace Suite has its own spacious 430 sq ft roof terrace perched on the 20th floor, high above the Imperial Palace moat and separated from the living room by an expansive sweep of windows. The adjoining bedroom has a separate balcony looking south towards Ginza, and in the bathroom a large window by the tub allows guests to truly soak up the view. From $2,500 a night en.palacehoteltokyo.com

Presidential Suite / Park Hyatt If there is a celebrity in town, chances are that they’re staying in the Park Hyatt’s 3,100 sq ft Presidential Suite. New properties come and go, but seasoned travelers retain a soft spot for this one. The hotel’s largest suite sits on the 51st floor, just below the iconic New York Bar and Grill – where resident pop stars have been known to deliver impromptu late-night croons. The suite is classically outfitted, with separate living and dining areas as well as an office, a spa tub in the bathroom and a dedicated butler. From $8,700 a night parkhyatt.com
