Gritti Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Venice VENICE, ITALY

The Gritti Palace was the private residence of the Doge of Venice in the 1500s, followed by a series of noble families in later years, before being converted into a luxury hotel in 1895. Over the years, it has attracted such illustrious guests as Ernest Hemingway and Peggy Guggenheim. Proving its standing as a patron of the arts, the hotel commissioned fashion illustrator David Downton to draw a number of these personalities. The palace’s history can be seen in every corner of the hotel, with the interiors of the 10 signature suites reflecting the people who have made the greatest impression on the hotel. Stay in the sumptuous Hemingway Presidential Suite in winter and request the Terrazza Redentore Suite in summer for its rooftop terrace with sundeck and Jacuzzi.
