Susan Olthof | Young State Park, Boyne City

In Ottawa County (not far from Grand Haven) Spring Lake’s Lakeside Beach – located on the corner of N. Lake Street and Beach Drive – features a sandy beach area, shelters and picnic areas, restroom facilities, and a deck with benches overlooking the lake. Not far from where the Hemingway family transferred from train to boat en route to their beloved Windemere cottage, you’ll find Walloon Lake’s public beach. Across the road, Melrose Township Park features restroom facilities, playground, basketball courts, and picnic areas with grills. It is located within walking distance to Hotel Walloon and Barrel Back Restaurant. DeVoe Beach is located on a large shallow cove at the mouth of the Indian River and Burt Lake, just a short walk from downtown Indian River. The large sandy beach is perfect for a day in the sun. You’ll also find a picnic area, and Veterans Pier – a universally-accessible, barrier-free fishing pier. Michigan State Parks are known for their beauty, and Petoskey State Park is no exception. Little Traverse Bay, this 303-acre park is a favorite in the region for its natural splendor. Take a dip in the calm waters of the bay, build your best sand castle, and end your evening with a magnificent sunset on the beach. Not ready to head home? Stay at one of 180 camping spots in the park to extend your beach day. Fremont Lake Park is an inland lake in Fremont with a beautiful beach area that’s wheelchair accessible. There’s also a great playground for kids, and sand volleyball courts. Zoll Street Beach in Harbor Springs is the perfect place to watch your pup prance through the waves for their prized ball, or zip up and down the shoreline. Take a dip with your furry friend, or relax on the beach while they play. Duck Lake State Park is a beautiful day use park stretching from the northern shore of Duck Lake to Lake Michigan. Fishing, hiking, swimming, metal detecting, and picnicking, are just some of the activities available in this 728-acre park, located in Muskegon County.

Coldwater Home to more than 100 lakes, including two chains of lakes, the area is a haven for relaxation on the water. You’ll find great beaches at Memorial Park on Messenger Lake and at Quincy Park on First Lake. ColdwaterCountry.com
