West Michigan Beaches With more miles of freshwater coastline than any other state, Michigan is blessed with unparalleled Great Lakes beaches that stretch as far as the eyes can see. Yet, there are also wonderful beaches at inland lakes that are hidden gems waiting to be discovered this summer!

Ramona Park & Beach is located off Sprinkle Road in Portage, with access to Long Lake (the fourth largest lake in Kalamazoo County, at 575 acres). The fully-staffed and lifeguarded beach area also offers an accessible playground, three pavilions, restroom facilities, picnic tables, sports courts (tennis, pickleball, volleyball, basketball, and football), and water rentals (canoe, kayak, and paddle boards). Gun Lake County Park, on the western shore, features over 450 feet of beach as well as a playground, basketball court, picnic tables, grills, boat launch, pavilion, and modern restroom facilities (many of which are ADA accessible). Located a short drive from Bay Pointe Inn in Shelbyville. In the Lansing area, the 100-acre Hawk Island County Park (located on Cavanaugh Road, between Pennsylvania Avenue and Aurelius Road) is a reclaimed space that has been transformed into a wonderful family-friendly destination. Visitors will find a swimming beach with a Splash Pad® area, paved accessible walkways and fishing docks, community-built playground, concession stand, picnic areas, and shelters. Leashed dogs are allowed, and there is a vehicle entrance fee to enter Hawk Island.
