Carefree Travel Guide 2022

The Fall color show that happens annually in West Michigan is truly unmatched. Our vast forests put on a vibrant display of reds, yellows, and oranges as Fall progresses, and many people plan vacations around this spectacular show, or just set aside an afternoon to leisurely drive around and take in the autumnal sights.

Fall Color

When to Watch for Fall Color Mother Nature sets her own calendar, so there’s no specific date for when the fall color show kicks off each year. The colors will typically start changing first in the western Upper Peninsula, and spend the next two to three weeks rolling down through West Michigan. Fall color peaks soonest in the north, and wraps up its season in the south, but even traveling east to west will make a difference, as the temperature of Lake Michigan means the trees along the coast will change later than the ones inland.
