With the added stress of the pandemic and school, meeting emotional and mental needs has become vital to making it through the highs and lows of the years. For some, this is accomplished through emotional support animals. Students who gained emotional support animals this year share how valuable their animal has been in promoting their mental health. “I’ve had my dog Hercules since May and he’s taught me a lot of patience. I’m usually a home person and love being with my family, so it can be difficult when I’m alone. However, my dog helps me by being that companion and not allowing myself to overthink things. One thing I appreciate is that he’s always with me and never leaves my side. So, I value him being such a great companion and showing me love.”
