CBA Record May-June 2024
THE YOUNG LAWYERS SECTION
getting me involved in the CBA eight years ago and for your years of active involvement in the Section, including representing the CBA at this year’s ABA Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. Kernisha Padilla (Member Services Man ager): Thank you for your leadership in keeping our membership engaged and in taking initiative to collect donations for Connections for Abused Women and their Children (CAWC), an organization committed to ending domestic violence. You help remind us that serving others, especially the underrepresented, under served, and disadvantaged, is an impor tant tenet of being a lawyer. Stephanie Moon (Project Officer): Thank you for your tireless work ethic and energy. There is not enough space to list all the YLS events you helped plan and lead. Among the many great network ing/social events you spearheaded, the YLS Holiday Social was my favorite. It served as an excellent way to emphasize the importance of community service by providing attendees an opportunity to wrap and drop off the Christmas presents that they purchased for CPS students in the Dear Santa Letters program. Aleksandra Petrovic (Project Officer): Thank you for always stepping up to the plate in every position you held on the YLS Executive Council over the years. The Intra-Professional Networking Social
with the Illinois CPA Society was a great success, and I’m looking forward to Law Week—and in a few years, your year as Chair. Jake Berger and Nikki Marcotte (Co Editors-in-Chief of the YLS Journal ): You guys have done a tremendous job leading the YLS Journal for the last few years, and the CBA YLS is lucky to have you. Thanks for the flexibility on my late submissions and for always volunteering to support other teams and projects, including the CBA Nominating Committee. Daniel Berkowitz (Immediate Past Chair): Thank you for the great advice and mentorship over the years and espe cially this year, for representing the YLS in Mexico for the CLE Abroad, and for your leadership on the 150 th Anniversary events. Brian Bentrup and Theresa Detroff (Co Editors in Chief of the @theBar Blog): Thank you for recruiting attorneys to post all year and ensuring the @theBar stays relevant, dynamic, and insightful. YLS Directors: All the YLS Directors did a tremendous job supporting and leading special projects and events. I want to give particular recognition to Andre Hunter, Jr., Josphua Epstein, and Bianca Ciarroni for their leadership role ensuring our law student membership had great network ing opportunities, including the Winter
Warm Up and Law Student Speed Net working Event.
CBA Executive Committee: As the YLS Chair, I had the privilege of learning from and being mentored by CBA’s most senior leadership at the Executive Committee and Board of Managers meetings. Special thanks to President Ray Koenig III, First Vice President John Sciaccotta, Second Vice President Kathryn Liss, Secretary Trisha Rich, Treasurer Nina Fain, Imme diate Past President Timothy Tomasik, and Executive Director Beth McMeen for setting a great example for me and the YLS to follow. YLS Committee Chairs: You are the heartbeat of our Section and the work you do putting together monthly meetings, practice area socials, community service events, and more does not go unnoticed. So, on behalf of the Section, Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Finally, I want to thank all our mem bers and readers. The CBA is one of the largest and most effective bar associations in the country because of you. It has been an absolute pleasure serving the YLS over the past seven years. I have learned a great deal about what it means to work as a team and to serve the community, and I have made friendships that have enriched my professional and personal life.
With gratitude, Martin D. Gould, Chair
