And while they don’t need to involve out of town trips, I hope she makes a conscious decision to create wonderful adventures with her children through the years and soaks in and savors each and every one, knowing those memories, along with God, will be what helps sustain her through whatever life may bring her way.

It had been a very difficult first semester academically, so there wasn’t nearly as much excitement this Christmas as the last. Mainly she was resting or sleeping, although we did catch up on some of our favorite shows. She was moving toward acceptance that medical school might not be an option. She had some really tough classes coming up the next semester, so I was concerned, but she’d made it through the first semester, so we focused on celebrating that huge accomplishment. But after she went back to KU, the cold winter days and nights passed slowly. From time to time, it felt a little like she was slipping through my fingers, but that made me particularly glad we had taken the adventures we had.
