For the first time in its history, the University of Louisville Law Library is led by three reference librarians who are also graduates of the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law. Kurt Metzmeier ’95, Will Hilyerd ’96, and Bailey Schrupp Eagin ’15 bring decades of combined experience in legal research, public service, and academic support—work that directly benefits Kentucky’s legal community. Each has “come home” to serve on the library faculty, where they teach upper-division research courses, support faculty scholarship, and assist practitioners who rely on the law library’s specialized collections.

BAILEY SCHRUPP EAGIN '15 Eagin is the electronic resources librarian. Before rejoining Brandeis Law, she worked as a research analyst at Hogan Lovells and taught as an adjunct professor at the University of North Texas at Dallas College of Law. Her experience managing digital research tools and training new attorneys positions her as a key voice in preparing students for the rapidly changing research demands of modern practice.

WILL HILYERD '96 Hilyerd is the legal reference

KURT METZMEIER '95 Metzmeier serves as interim director of the law library. A longtime scholar of Kentucky legal history, he began his career as a law librarian and instructional computing manager at another Kentucky law school before returning to UofL. His research and publications on state history, judicial biography, and archival preservation have become valuable resources for practitioners and historians across the Commonwealth.

librarian. He previously managed the library of the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy in Frankfort. In that role, he oversaw research resources for the state’s public defenders—a background that continues to shape his commitment to expanding access to reliable legal information for attorneys who serve vulnerable populations.

Together, the three alumni maintain the law library’s extensive print and digital holdings, curate specialized research guides and offer instruction that strengthens the research capacity of future lawyers, faculty, and the wider Kentucky bar through public services and professional outreach.
