Elevating Events

A highlight of NABIP Maryland’s 2024 Annual Expo was keynote speaker Rachel Druckenmiller, an award-winning health industry thought leader pictured with Jasmine Keating, NABIP director of strategic growth and Nancy Colaianne, president of NABIP Maryland. The Maryland chapter also upped its event game in 2023 with its first-ever Medicare Summit, a one-day educational and networking event.

Service to the community

NABIP Maryland leverages an industry tie-in for its philanthropy, The Greater Chesapeake Foundation. Insurance agents founded the organization, raising money and toy donations for Maryland hospitals. Colaianne says choosing to work with a charity that’s “specific to our industry” has meaning for members — and using that targeted philanthropic approach is something other chapters could easily replicate. She says the toy drive, held at the Baltimore Railroad Museum, is one of the year’s biggest fundraisers and features Santa arriving via train. “It’s a very Maryland thing,” she says.

Celebrating association leaders

Sandy Walters, chief industry information officer emeritus and strategic advisor at Kelly Benefits in Sparks, Maryland, received the NABIP Maryland Industry Excellence Award in recognition of almost four decades of outstanding leadership and service to the insurance industry and association.
