Alief ISD Spring 2025

PREGAME

A Letter from an Alief Athletic Advisory Committee Parent

My name is Perla Chávez. I am a proud mother of four incredible children, a wife of twenty-four and a half years, and faith driven. My husband Lucas Chávez and I have lived in the Alief community throughout the entirety of our marriage. Our oldest son Diego will soon be 21 years old and is thriving at Houston Community College. Diego is an Alief Taylor HS graduate Class of 2022. Throughout his time within the Alief school system, band and soccer were such an integral part of his life. Alief provided Diego with the opportunity to graduate high school with college credits through their Dual Credit program. Emily is a Junior at Alief Taylor HS and does not have a dull moment to spare. She has been the Goal Keeper on the girls soccer Varsity team since Freshman year. Within the last couple of years she joined the Cross Country team which has in turn helped her improve her overall athletic performance. Our two youngest children, also Alief students, look forward to the day that they reach the age to be able to participate in the extra curricular activities the Alief School District provides. They have grown up seeing their older siblings participate in Athletics and Fine Arts. Alief has given our children the opportunities to demonstrate talents that might otherwise never have been discovered. Playing the saxophone is something that we never thought our son Diego would learn to play, but Alief provided the tools and instructors in order for this to be possible. Emily is part of the Veterinary program at the CTE. A program of this magnitude is what sets Alief apart. Emily is being set up for success, being set up for her future. Soccer, which has been an immense part of our lives, has allowed Emily to showcase what she can do on and off the field. Her thrive for this sport is what keeps my husband and I wanting to do more for Emily and her soccer team at Taylor HS. I joined the Taylor Booster Club towards the end of Emily’s Freshman year in hopes of doing more for the girls soccer team. Doing so has made such a positive impact on the team. My husband and I have made ourselves available to help in any way that we can. Joining the Athletic Advisory Committee in 2023 was such an incredible opportunity. Knowing that the Alief Administrators want to know what we, the Alief parents, want for our children, speaks very highly of this school district. Listening to our ideas and concerns, and following through with what is feasible, shows that our voices matter. Alief listens! We just have to be present. I encourage more parents to be part of all that Alief provides for our children. The tools and opportunities are there. When we are present, we are united for one goal, the success of our children.
