Fostering Resilience, Adaptability, and a Lifelong Love for Learning Innovation & Collaboration

This program provides students with real-world access and experiences that serve them for a lifetime. Students enrolled in Journalism write in a variety of forms for a variety of audiences and purposes. Students plan, draft, and complete written compositions on a regular basis, carefully examining their papers for clarity, engaging language, and the correct use of the conventions and mechanics of written English. In Journalism, students are expected to write in a variety of forms and for a variety of audiences and purposes. Students will become analytical consumers of media and technology to enhance their communication skills. Published work of professional journalists, technology, and visual and electronic media are used as tools for learning as students create, clarify, critique, write, and produce effective communications. Students enrolled in Journalism will learn journalistic traditions, research self selected topics, write journalistic texts, and learn the principles of publishing. Students may use their skills and talents to gather information, conduct interviews, and write news articles or stories for their school newspaper or website, or yearbook. Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) provides opportunities for future leaders to receive training in leadership skills, teamwork, discipline, and character development. Students participate in physical fitness training, including exercises, drills, and activities to improve strength, endurance, and overall fitness. Community service projects such as volunteering at local events, assisting with disaster relief efforts, or supporting veterans' organizations. JROTC students learn and practice military drill and ceremony techniques, including marching, formations, salutes, and flag etiquette. JROTC also provides the opportunity to participate in field training exercises, which can include map reading, orienteering, teamwork challenges, and

these programs, Alief ISD has built a strong and thriving fine arts community. The success of Alief ISD's Fine Arts programs can be seen in the achievements of its students. Our elementary music and art programs are our foundational starting points for all fine arts programs in Alief. One hundred percent of our elementary students participate in these programs weekly. Performing provides students with the chance to showcase their hard work and talent. Band, choir, and orchestra students showcase their talents in front of an audience. This can include festivals, parades, recitals, competitions, and community events. High School music students who receive Superior Ratings, advance to the State level in band, choir, and orchestra solo and ensemble contests. The students selected to perform in the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-State concerts are chosen for this prestigious honor through a competitive process held across the state at District, Region, and Area levels. All-State is the highest honor a music student in the state of Texas can receive while in high school. Over 70,000 students initially enter the TMEA All State competitive process - 1,875 students are selected to perform in 18 All-State ensembles - All-State performances. The Speech and Debate programs at Alief ISD's middle and high schools are rigorous and rewarding. Students compete in multiple Improvisation, and Solo Acting, at the annual Middle School Speech, Debate, and Drama Tournament. Students also hone their skills in Original Oratory, Readers Theatre, Solo Improvisation, Duet Acting, LipSync, Prose, Pantomime, Poetry, Vocal Solo, Storytelling, and Original Spoken Word Poetry. The Speech and Debate students consistently receive awards at the local, regional, state, and national levels. categories, including Extemporaneous Speaking, Informative Speaking, Duet

Respect is a fundamental value, students are taught to respect themselves, their peers, and the art forms they are studying. This respect extends to the wider community, as students are encouraged to appreciate and learn from different cultures and artistic traditions. A growth mindset is instilled in students participating in all Fine Arts programs. Students are encouraged to embrace challenges, persevere through setbacks, and continuously strive for improvement. This mindset fosters resilience, adaptability, and a lifelong love for learning. Innovation is at the heart of Alief ISD's Fine Arts programs. Students are encouraged to think creatively, explore new ideas, and push the boundaries of artistic expression. Through innovative projects and collaborations, students are able to apply their learning and make meaningful connections across various platforms. Alief Independent School District offers a wide range of fine arts programs to its students, including Elementary Music, Band, Choir, Orchestra, Speech, Debate, Journalism, JROTC - Air Force, Navy and Marines Corps, Dance, Cheer, Visual Arts, and Theatre Arts.
