BOARD MEMBER CONNIE ESPARZA SELECTED TO PRESTIGIOUS TASB LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

Leadership TASB, developed in 1993, is a unique board development program for school board members in Texas. It aims to provide visionary leadership and advanced educational training. The program exposes experienced board members to various issues, people, activities, and locations, with nationally known speakers addressing themes like teamwork, trusteeship, equity, diversity, and visionary leadership. Aldine ISD is pleased to announce that Trustee Conception ‘Connie’ Esparza has been ac cepted into

and communities and for representing the diversity of Texas school districts. Esparza was elected to Position 4 of the Board of Education seat in November 2017 after being appointed in February 2017. Esparza, a retired educator, has been an integral part of the community since 1979. Her service as the Program Man ager of Dual Credit at Houston Commu nity College (HCC) Northeast and her involvement in various initiatives, includ ing the Compensation and Academic Freedom/Professional Security/Profes sional Growth Committees, demonstrate her commitment to the district’s success. She has also volunteered at MacArthur High School, Bonding Against Adversity, and the Harris County Sheriff’s DARE Program. Esparza’s membership in several boards, including the Mexican American School Boards Association and the Aldine Education Foundation, further underscores her dedication to the community. Esparza has strong roots in Aldine. Her daughter is a graduate of MacArthur High School. Christi Van Wassenhove has transitioned from her role as Executive Director of Literacy and Social Studies to the posi tion of Executive Director of Professional Learning and Leadership Development. This change in leadership roles is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance profes sional growth and leadership within our district. While primary school alignment re mained unchanged, Chief of Schools Dr. Javier Villarreal realigned the second ary schools. This realignment aims to provide more intentional support to our middle schools, reassuring our staff that we are committed to their professional growth and the success of our students. respected Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Leadership program. The program is designed to help participants develop advanced skills to improve school district outcomes. “I am deeply honored to be select ed for the Leadership TASB Class of 2025,” said Esparza. “My participation in Leadership TASB will result in the entire Aldine Board of Trustees earn ing the designation of Master Trustee status. This opportunity will allow me to enhance my leadership skills and bring new perspectives to our district. I look forward to collaborating with fellow board members from across the state to continue advocating for the students, Aldine ISD remains steadfast in its commitment to providing students with the best education possible and en suring they graduate with choices and opportunities. The district made several changes over the summer due to the district’s annual optimization process. These changes are a testament to our dedication to serving our students and the district’s interests while valuing each staff member’s role in AISD’s mission. Chief Transformation Officer Dr. Adrian Bustillos will oversee additional pro grams: CTE, advanced academics, virtual school, and performing and visual arts. Streamlining these cross-functional departments will impact schools more and enhance students’ choices and opportunities.

LEADERSHIP CHANGES ANNOUNCED FOR THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR

New to the district is Sheila Adams. She will serve as Chief Com munications Officer and has an

impressive 25 years of experience. Adams will lead, direct, and execute major district communication programs, strategies, events, and activities. Significant changes have taken place in the realignment of School Assistant Superintendents. This strategic move aims to support our campuses better, underscoring their crucial role in our schools’ success.
