Located in Missouri’s Ozark Highlands wine country, St. James Winery was established in 1970 by Jim and Pat Hofherr. The Ozarks are rooted in Italian heritage, as Italian immigrants settled there in the late 1800s. The region began to produce high-quality Concord grapes, primarily used for juice and jelly. By 1922, the area had over 200 wineries and 1,000 acres for wine, and Missouri became the second-larg est wine producer in the United States. With a commitment to sus tainability, St. James Winery has a state-of-the-art irriga tion system to minimize water consumption and uses a low energy fermentation and stor age system. It also uses screw cap closures to avoid the issue of hard-to-recycle cork closures. Since its founding, St. James Winery has become the most awarded winery in Missouri, and it’s best known for its fruit wines, including these options.
