Adirondack Peeks Winter 2023
Hi, Adirondack 46ers, My name is David W. Zhu; I just com pleted my first twenty-five winter high peaks between February 2—March 11, within 11 hiking days! I experienced winter trails and weather conditions while breaking a herd path up to San tanoni Peak, backpacking the Dix and Seward Ranges, and got wind chilled on the summit of Whiteface. Condi tions were windy and chilly with poor Letters to the Editors continued . . .
visibility when I did HaBaSa, which is where I met my new hiking friends. I joined forces with Heather Bark ley and her friends and celebrated her W46 on Dix, and her SSW46 on Colden. I met another friend—Barb Ann, ADK Gridder, hiking as well and savor the many stories and lessons I learned. Here are my best pictures to share.
Hi PEEKS ,
Love the magazine and especially the new format-
keep up the great work!
I had a great photo title: "Whiteface at Sunrise", This was taken by me from the leanto on Lake Placid's Moose Island looking at the backside of Whiteface. My good friend (Tom Cosgro, aspiring 46er) and I did an over night trip where we paddled from Mirror Lake (the Lake Placid Brewery to be specific), portaged to Lake Placid, and then hiked up Whiteface Brook Trail from the landing to the summit (and back). Very neat experience starting in down town Lake Placid and ending up at the summit and back on our own power. Enjoying views of the peak lakeside with some casual beveridges at the end didn't hurt either.
