Adirondack Peeks Winter 2023
Congratulations on an exceptional is sue of PEEKS (Summer 2023). It's the best-looking issue yet, with outstand ing photos, page layouts, and very interesting content. And many thanks for publishing two photos of my Dad, William Wilson, on the In Memoriam page. Our family was very touched to see him included. He was a true fan of the ADK and inspired his family to en joy hiking, climbing, skiing, and boat ing in the Park. We miss him greatly, but it's comforting to think of him hik ing in those Celestial Hills. Peter Wilson, #6963
Fantastic start to your coediting jour ney! Thank you for the beautiful pho tos, wonderful stories, and terrific combination of past, present, and fu ture views of the ADK. The poems you included were lovely, too. It is a very difficult pick but I think my favorite ar ticle is the reprint of “Climbing White Face” from Adirondack Tales in 1878. No surprise that these mountains have continued to astonish those who experience them for more than these last 145 years. Keep up the great work! Lynn Manning, #13630
Folks . . . had a great time at dinner last weekend, thoroughly enjoyed the event, camaraderie, etc. At tached is a pic I thought you might like. Jim Dickinson (left), #243. Brad Meacham (right), #13500 Hey PEEKS Team, My name is Ryan Wichelns, #7916, and a native of Stillwater, NY. I was a writer for Backpacker Magazine for a long time until they went out of print about a year ago. In response, I launched Trails Magazine , a new kind of print only quarterly, quality-over-quantity publication for the backpacking and hiking crowd. We’ll be sending Issue 4 of Trails Magazine to the printer, cap ping off a full year of magazines. Our magazine is obviously something that might be of interest to PEEKS readers and my story may also be of interest. I wanted to say that I really enjoyed the new issue of PEEKS magazine. I liked the maps, The Vault, and the short stories. The pictures from the cover and inside cover were espe cially good! Ray Finney, #11604 Thank you for the online Summer 2023 PEEKS Magazine. This is the best issue yet. The article about Mary Glynn's NPT winter backpack is very informative and also very important for future winter hikers who want to venture into that area. The other ar ticles with photos are great too. Katie Balcke, #4043
Hi PEEKS , Just wanted to let you know about an unexpected consequence of my ar ticle in PEEKS . Today I received a card from my 11th grade English teacher who I haven’t seen or heard from since high school. Turns out she and her husband climbed the 46 back in the 50s (Marcia Wentworth #2231). It was great to hear from her and I expect we’ll have more to share in the com ing months. Quite a nice side benefit from a magazine with a limited circulation. But I guess it’s the focus on like-mind ed people that really matters. Carson Sorrell, #14098
DOUBLE BRAVO!!! Congratulations on your first PEEKS . May you bag many more with as much style/panache! I really enjoyed Mary Glynn's NPT sto ry. The place names brought back all kinds of memories of my southbound warm-weather thru hike. It rained so much that when I finally found a motel somewhere north of Northville I actu ally wept with joy to finally be inside a warm, safe, dry room. Also really enjoyed #211's 1973 The Future . . . article and the questionnaire. Ralph Ferrusi, #2023
