Cindy Palumbo #15921 has been elected to our Board of Directors. Cindy described her reason for offering her time and talent to the Forty-Sixers: “After completing my 46er journey this past summer with my husband, Anthony, I decided that I wanted to become a 46er volunteer to stay connected to this awesome hiking community. The 46er

As a teacher, it was a great fit for me to help connect our youth living in the Adirondack Park by providing them with an opportunity to experience a DEC camp.”w Tom Armstrong #1682 is our new Trailmaster! We are expecting 2025 to be a big year. Tom says, “I’m a retired math teacher and advisor of Plattsburgh High School Hiking Club. I’ve been working with the trail crew for nine years. I first joined because I wanted to give back to the peaks that have given me so much. The friends I’ve made and the job satisfaction keeps me coming back.”

By joining the Board, I hope to have a positive impact on any current and future projects as well as contribute to and support the Adirondack 46ers mission and goals.” Since the year 2000, the Forty-Sixers have donated over $1 million for trail work, education, and conservation projects. We have started a new Committee called Grant Coordinators to lead the process of soliciting grant applications, participating in Board review, and communicating with the grant applicants. Two volunteers have agreed to share this responsibility: Steve Shumway and Katelyn Reepmeyer.

Ally #14000 volunteered to join the 100th-year celebration committee. Ally says, “The Adirondack mountains hold an incredibly special place in my heart. On these trails, I’ve forged some of my closest friendships, Ryan

Steve Shumway #7098V first volunteered with the 46ers working on the north trail to Giant in 2010 while he was an aspiring 46er. In addition to many hours of trail work over the years, he has served as a trailhead steward, a correspondent,

uncovered a strength within myself I never knew existed, and found a community of passionate, like-minded individuals who inspire me every day. These experiences have motivated me to give back by volunteering with the 46ers on several occasions, and I am eager to take on this new role to contribute even more consistently. The Adirondack mountains feel like a second home to me, and I am deeply committed to helping preserve their wild beauty and ensuring they remain accessible for future generations to find their own sense of adventure and connection.” Recently, Ally has also joined our Dinner/Events Committee to help us plan for our membership gatherings.

and served a three-year term as a 46er Director. He’s also served as a member of the nominating committee and was a member of the inaugural recognition committee established in 2019. After moving five years ago from the high peaks back to his hometown in Pennsylvania, he is eager to recommit his service to this outstanding organization that means so much to him. On the hiking side, he and his wife Fran (7097V) expect to make the final three climbs to complete their NE115 this summer.
