AFFILIATIONS: Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) GOAL OF PROGRAM: XPLOR is a congregationally hosted, 10-month Residency for adults ages 21- to 30 who want to consider lives of care and service by exploring the intersections of the life of faith and the work of justice, while living in simple, intentional community. TYPE OF PLACEMENT: Hands-on service/justice work - Residents work in non-profit community agencies four days, up to 30 hours per week, in and among neighborhoods to empower local mission efforts while gaining awareness of systems of injustice. AREA OF SERVICE: Hiram-Mantua, OH; St. Louis, MO; Dallas, TX; Tucson-Marana, AZ; Spokane, WA and Charlotte, NC LENGTH OF SERVICE: 10 months REQUIREMENTS: 21 to 30 years of age, commitment to vocational discernment and spiritual exploration, willingness to be connected to a congregational setting for the residential year. FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS: $475 monthly stipend; health insurance; housing with utilities, enrichment opportunities. LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: Group - between three and five people per residence. SIZE OF PROGRAM: 20 Residents in five host locations around the United States and up to two Residents in a specialized "sequel" program TRAINING: One week national orientation, and one week local site orientation; weekly spiritual companion sessions, vocational discernment and anti-oppression curriculum, professional development, and life-skills training. We are devoted to living out the Gospel message through the cornerstones of community, simplicity, prayer and service. We serve alongside our neighbors to address sub-standard housing by providing home repair. We celebrate the richness of Appalachia and experience God through building relationships between our volunteers and the local community. TYPE OF PLACEMENT: Providing service retreats for youth and adults through construction/home repair. Opportunities include: Rural Appalachian ministry, youth ministry, office management, gardening, construction, and community building. AREA OF SERVICE: Doddridge County, West Virginia and surrounding counties. Appalachia. LENGTH OF SERVICE: One to two years. REQUIREMENTS: Social justice oriented men and women, single, widowed, married, divorced, separated or religious, open to collaborative ministry. Ages 21 and older. Personal interview. Ability and willingness to learn required. FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS: Program provides room, board, $125 a month stipend, work gear stipend, travel bonus, medical insurance, retreats, professional development, and transportation to work sites and for personal use. LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: Volunteer staff members live in community in staff house. Each volunteer staff has own bedroom. SIZE OF PROGRAM: Maximum of 10 full-time volunteer staff. TRAINING: Orientation for new volunteers provided on site, safety training provided, construction skills learned throughout the service. Training on Appalachian culture, Catholic Social Teaching and local issues provided. APPLICATION DEADLINE: January 1, for Summer Start; May 1,for Fall Start. We accept applications at any time and will review applications on a rolling basis after these deadlines. Submitting an application by the deadline ensures a quicker turnaround time in the process. GOAL OF PROGRAM: To promote equality, justice, and reconciliation for LGBTQI people in the Catholic church and the greater society through education and advocacy. TYPE OF PLACEMENT: Social media coordination for Catholic LGBTQI news and opinion. Writing for a daily blog on Catholic LGBTQI issues. Plan and execute educational and spiritual development programs in LGBTQI ministry, such as retreats, conferences, publications. General office work. AREA OF SERVICE: Mount Rainier, MD, outside of Washington, DC. LENGTH OF SERVICE: 9-12 months REQUIREMENTS: Interest in LGBTQI ministry, oral and written communication proficiency, above average intelligence, administrative capability and maturity. FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS: Small monthly stipend, room and board, through the Loretto Volunteer Program. LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: In Loretto volunteer community .
