ASTER A. novae-angliae 'Purple Dome' PURPLE DOME ASTER

A. chinensis 'Visions' VISIONS ASTILBE

Photo Credit: Walters Gardens, Inc. Sturdy, thick, fluffy, bright mauve plumes are held above the foliage on thick flower stems. This cultivar has robust, dark green foliage that holds up to the sun and has better drought tolerance than other Astilbes. Excellent plants for borders, the shade garden and edges of ponds. Good cut flowers and a great foliage plant. Later blooming than other Astilbes. Takes full sun if mulched and watered well. 18-24" Zones 3-9 JUN-JUL

'Purple Dome' is an exciting dwarf Aster. Asters are excellent fall bloomers but 'Purple Dome' takes it to another level. Rich purple flowers with a yellow eye adorn this exceptional perennial from late August into early October. When you combine the highly floriferous fall display with nice, compact form, you have a star for the perennial border. Works great in unison with fall mums and ornamental kale. Use all three for a vibrant combination. 18"x18-24" Zones 4-8 SEP A. novae-angliae 'Wood's Pink' WOOD'S PINK ASTER

A. chinensis 'Vision in Pink' VISION IN PINK ASTILBE

The Ornamental Onion (Alliums) is a clump forming plant. This fine selection was named in the year 2000 and sports long lasting globe shaped fruit. These rosy, purple globes as well as the foliage will emit a slight 'oniony' fragrance when bruised. This native plant is very attractive when planted in a mass and will grow

in full sun and light shade. 15-18"x 20-25" Zones 5-9

JUN-AUG

AMSONIA BLUESTAR

Another tetraploid selection that exhibits thick and heavy foliage and flower stems. Pale pink flowering version of 'Visions'. The foliage has a wonderful blue-green color and holds up well. Somewhat later bloomer than the other 'Visions' selections. Great for borders, shade gardens and edges of ponds. Good cut flowers. Takes full sun if mulched and watered well. 26" Zones 3-9 JUL-AUG

A. x 'Blue Ice' BLUE ICE AMSONIA

Wood's Pink is a compact, clump-forming aster. It typically grows in a compact mound around 12-18” tall. This perennial has pink rays and yellow centers that bloom profusely from late summer to early fall. These flowers will definitely attract butterflies to your garden. Plant this along borders in the landscape (they can also be planted in containers in sunny locations). They can also be effective when planted along walkways or paths. 1-2.5' x 1-2.5' Zones 4-8 AUG-OCT

A. arendsii 'Fanal' FANAL RED ASTILBE

Photo Credit: Walters Gardens, Inc. The latest addition to the "Visions" range. The flowers start as deep red buds, but open as an extremely bright purplish fuchsia color (that is darker in color than 'Visions') and not a true red as the name would imply. The leaves have red stems and excellent bronze-green foliage. Another excellent foliage plant when not in bloom. Great for borders, shade gardens and edges of ponds. Good cut flowers. Takes full sun if mulched and watered well. 18-24" Zones 3-9 JUN

Amsonia 'Blue Ice' is a wonderful new Bluestar selection. The Blue Stars are all very good garden plants. The multi-season interest begins with a neat green leaved form that sprouts blue flowers before ending with yellow fall foliage. 'Blue Ice' is more dynamic in all aspects. Dark blue buds open to sky blue flowers with hints of lavender. The season will end with glowing yellow leaves on an 18" plant. 18" Zones 4-9 MAY

An outstanding dark red-maroon flower. Plumes are long and narrow and occur early to mid June. This cultivar grows to about 24" when in bloom. The attractive foliage emerges reddish and matures to a deep, dark green. Partial shade and organically rich, moist soils are required to maintain astilbes. Additional water may be necessary during dry periods. Very adaptable cultivar. 24" Zones 3-9 JUN
