Open and pyramidal trees while young, but round- topped and irregular when old. Twisted, bluish-green needles. Reddish-orange bark and irregular form on older trees offer a tremendous amount of character. An excellent, extremely narrow upright selection. Dark green in summer and purplish in winter. A good specimen or narrow screen. Full sun and well-drained soil required. A very nice selection of our native Juniper. Deer resistant. 18-20'x2' Zones 4-7

An easy to grow, dense, pyramidal evergreen when young. Becomes flat-topped with age. Has long, stiff, dark-green needles. This species withstands adverse city conditions and road salt well. Maintain by "candle pruning" each May. 50' Zones 4-7 P. strobus EASTERN WHITE PINE

LARCH LARIX

Larix laricina AMERICAN LARCH TAMARACK

A low, spreading evergreen with flat arching branches. Very graceful foliage resembling arborvitae is light- green in color. Winter color in the sun is brownish purple. Found in the wild in Siberia. This plant must have a well-drained site – the key to success for this plant. One of the few evergreens that thrive in shade. 12"x3-4' Zones 2-6

A very fast growing, native pine with soft blue-green needles held in groups of five. Needles 2 years or older are shed in September or October. Quite pyramidal when young, but opening up with age. Often older specimens have very horizontal branching. Grows in most soil types, but needs some protection in Zone 3. Can be maintained smaller by "candle pruning". 50-80' Zones 3-7 P. mugo var. mugo MUGO PINE Slowgrowing,mound-shapedconifer. Bright-greenfoliage all year long. Very hardy. Excellent plant for rock garden. 3-5'x3-6' Zones 3-7

Our native American Larch or Tamarack has a form like a Christmas tree with bright green needles during the growing season and fine yellow fall color before the needles fall in late autumn. Prefers moist, rich, acidic soil for best growth. An excellent native but not for urban sites and intolerant of drought. Hardy native for a moist, cool site. 40-60'x15-25' Zones 2-5

Bird's Nest Spruce is a an excellent addition to any garden. It has attractive, dark green needles on many short branches forming a neat plant wider than tall. The compact form is very uniform and refined and will work well in a formal gardens as well as your standard landscape. This is an excellent mounding evergreen for most situations and will grow in full sun to partial shade. 3'x6' Zones 3-7
