ur family ranch is located in southwest Montana along the foothills of the Madison Range. The property was homesteaded in 1889 by Wilbur Herrick. George Herrick later took over the ranch and was joined by his
brother Frank Herrick. Frank and Minnie had three daughters, the youngest being my grand mother, Ramona. Due to having all girls, and Grandma being the youngest, she was often found laboring out in the fields as opposed to house work. Her and my Grandpa Pete, after marrying, bought out the ranch from her sisters. In addition to ranching, they owned and oper ated an outfitting and guiding business in the mountains behind the ranch for the duration of their working years. They had four children: Wade, Todd, Lisa and Zane. At current the ranch remains a family opera tion, however Todd runs the day to day. His two children, Teelan and Tori (me), both reside close by and often work alongside their dad in addi tion to careers off the ranch. Grandma Mona is 95 and up until recently still flagged, filled gates, and made sandwiches for long work days. She is a true matriarch and a living history book of both our ranch and the Madison Valley. The operation is a true multigenerational
