WR: What’s an opportunity for KBC that excites you?
MA: We are going to be partnering with some producers who do direct to consumer sales. We are doing a pilot program that will allow us to place a QR code on their packaging, which will take their customer to recipes for that specific cut. It will provide them infor mation on how to cook it, and what they can do with it, on the Beef It’s What’s For Dinner site. Eventually, we hope to expand to some of our retailers here in Iowa, and do the same thing. We eat a lot of ground beef, and with the price of beef today, they are reluctant to exper iment with cuts they aren’t familiar with. We know there are so many cuts that are still economical to them, that could give them some diversity in their beef choices, and open them up to new cuts and recipes they can do at home, which further cements us in their diets. These QR codes will hopefully give them more confidence in trying new cuts and get them to buy something other than ground beef. WR encourages producers to have a voice by being active and involved in an association that aligns with your ideals.
