UNDER THE DIRECTION OF NEW COACH WILLIE AMENDOLA, THE CRUSADERS MADE SOME TREMENDOUS STRIDES AS A PROGRAM IN 2022. Concordia Lutheran went 5-5 during the regular season, while remaining competitive in a tough district that featured the likes of Antonian Prep, St. Thomas Catholic and St. Pius X. The Crusaders reached the postseason, but was cut short after being defeated by Nolan Catholic in the TAPPS Area Round. Offensively, the Crusaders had some bright spots that included Ryan Escalante, Andrew Blades and young up and-comer Tanner Huckfelt at quarterback. Meanwhile, senior lineman Gianluca Decillo, Lou Lamar and Luken Koehn anchored the defense. Given the overall youth of the team, it’s understandable that there would be some kinks that need to be worked out. Rest assured, Amendola will be on the case in year two of directing the Concordia Lutheran program.
