Truckin' on the Western Branch
In 1969, shortly after graduating from Randolph Macon College, I came back and joined my father in the family dealership. I became head of sales and service for the heavy-duty trucks. I’ve always loved trucks and kept on farming. My father passed away on March 12, 1980, and 1981 was a really bad year in the car business. I knew I couldn’t continue in both farming and the dealership. So in early 1982, I sold off all the farm machinery except two tractors and devoted my full efforts to the car business.
