The Positive Impact of Operation Round Up Since 1997, the pennies donated to Operation Round Up have added up to more than $6 million in grants to deserving individuals, families, and community organizations: % 1,489 grants of $2,423,454.20 to community service providers. % 2,502 grants totaling $1,809,879.30 to individuals and families with medical and health needs. % 171 grants of $213,468.85 to emergency services providers. % 216 grants of $172,009.91 to local schools for educational materials and equipment. % 2,470 scholarships equaling $1,336,241.00 to undergraduate students attending accredited universities or technical schools and for continuing education. % 267 grants of $361,171.28 for weatherization to help provide long-term energy and home efficiency solutions for low-income and elderly individuals. % 236 grants of $308,836.00 to support local youth activities which promote good citizenship and help develop strong, healthy communities. Leadership Opportunities for Area Students By engaging youth through several leadership programs, CREC and other Missouri electric co-ops are helping to teach important skills to new generations of productive citizens who will help their communities thrive. Each year, CREC hosts six of the area’s best and brightest high school students on an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, DC. During the weeklong experience, these young men and women learn about democracy and leadership while serving as Missouri delegates on the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Youth Tour.
