The First Hundred Years: Clearwater Yacht Club, 1911-2011

Annual Meeting and Dinner Dance

The final traditional event of the year is the Annual Meeting and Dinner Dance, which is held in November. At this meeting, the commodore, other officers, and committee chairs make reports to the membership on the state of the club. The club’s various interest groups may also make reports to the membership at this time. The election of the next year’s officers, directors, and trustees takes place at the Annual Meeting. Mailed ballots are counted and members who have not done so may vote at this time. The results of the election are announced at the end of the meeting after which everyone adjourns to the dining room for a celebratory dinner and dance. Each of these formal events reflects the values of the club’s culture and serves to reinforce a portion of its mission. The Annual Meeting gives members information about and input into how well the club is accomplishing its goal to provide “ good food, refreshments and maintain a suitable clubhouse, anchorage and facilities for the recreation and use of its members and their families; to promote the social welfare, entertainment and diversion of its members, their families and guests” and to “encourage yachting by the public.” The Annual Cruise and Blessing of the Fleet address the club’s mission to “ promote and assist in making members more proficient in seamanship and navigation.” The Change of Watch rewards members who have embodied the values of yachting and fellowship that are the core of the mission. The Commodores’ Ball honors those who have supported the mission by giving a minimum of six years of intense service on the club’s board of directors and bridge.
