and Sarah Cooper Memorial Award for Community Service (established in 1996) is given to a member who has made important contributions to the community as a whole. The recipient of this award is also selected by the outgoing commodore. The recipient of the Robert Word Memorial Award for Racing Participation is selected by the outgoing commodore in consultation with the Yachting Committee. The award was donated in 1991 in memory of Robert Word and is a half-hull model of his boat Ginger made by Francis Seavy. The award goes to the “big boat sailor that has done the best in CYC races” during the year. The Marie Shepard McMahon Fellowship Award was established in 1991 by the Gulls and Bow Chasers and is “awarded to a female member of the CYC in good standing for at least 1 year that exemplifies and promotes friendship among all members of CYC at club functions.
