B efore the Sin City gambling boom, before the bright lights of the Vegas Strip, Reno was the gambling capital of the U.S. Reno is home to the U.S. Mint, where the Silver State’s precious metals were turned into silver dollars and other coins. The winner: “The Biggest Little City in the World,” a title Reno still wears proudly today, though the arch that current ly stands is the fourth of its kind. It’s no longer the gaming capital of America, but Reno and its neighbor, Sparks, remain a fun, varied casino destination area. The rise of nearby competition, especially from Native American tribes in northern California, has forced Reno operators to evolve and adapt, and they’ve done just that.
