The FRCC Teaching Careers program is a one-year program open to seniors in high school, led by MSTA member Jenny Meers. The program is designed to allow students true teaching experiences and opportunities for learning at various levels, while partnering with local schools to complete observation hours and assignments related to the course work. In addition to the hands-on opportunities, students also engage in academic coursework that is relevant to becoming a teacher including child development, teaching, learning and classroom instructional strategies. a teacher and student should be able to talk easily with each other, but a specific line should be set so things can’t go too far. Relationships are a significant part of a student’s success and help the teacher grow throughout the process. I believe that when it comes to relationships, they both have one thing in common: wanting to be truly heard. Teachers have to teach the lessons in multiple different ways to accommodate each student’s abilities and disabilities and are expected to keep a smile on their face through thick and thin. I have been told that I am a role model to my younger sister, but it wasn’t until I saw her act like me that it really sank in. She was like a sponge absorbing the knowledge that she heard from me, forming into the person that she learned how to be from it. To have that much influence on someone showed me how inspiring mentoring one single person could be. After this realization, I knew that teaching was what I wanted to do. I want to become an educator to lead so that students can achieve their goals and become who they want to be. If I want to be able to help my students, then I must have a good teacher-student relationship with them. For me, a teacher-student relationship should be friendly but still have boundaries. What I mean by this is that
