INTERIOR DESIGN It’s September- WHORE-AYYY! The hot weather is over, the crisp cool days of Fall are on their way and I can already smell the pumpkin spice lattes. And of course, school is about to start. Last month I talked a little bit about one of the “4 P’s”. Now you’re thinking, “Hey Kate. What are the 4 P’s?” Well, thanks for asking. The “4 P’s” are my completely unscientific, totally made-up algorithm for styling a room like a pro. Here they are in order: PAINT, PILLOWS, PICTURES, and PLANTS/ I kind of went out of order and started with PICTURES in last month’s column. Honestly, the order doesn’t matter. If you want to completely change the style and feel of a space, updating these P’s will do it every time. Of the four, I would say PAINT is the most transformative. Nothing can change a room faster. I say it all the time: PAINT is a decorator’s miracle. You don’t even have to paint every wall of a room to get the impact. Sometimes just painting one wall as an “accent wall” is enough to enhance the space. Here are some other ideas for you: Paint the trim a new color. Paint shapes on the walls. Paint the ceiling. Paint built-in kitchen cabinets or old furniture. Add stripes somewhere. Cover old wood wall paneling with paint. Seriously, there are no rules. I’ll prove it to you.
