RAISING BRAVE KIDS: BUILDING COURAGE ONE SMALL STEP AT A TIME
Big acts of courage—giving a speech, trying out for a team, sleeping away from home—don’t just appear out of nowhere. Bravery is built in small, everyday steps, and as parents, we have endless opportunities to help our kids practice. Bravery can look like: • Letting your child order their own food at a restaurant. • Encouraging them to say hello to a new neighbor or classmate. • Trying a new game, food, or activity together. • Asking a question in class, at the library, or even at the grocery store. • Calling a friend or business (instead of having a parent do it). These little moments matter because bravery grows like a muscle—the more kids use it, the stronger it gets. When children see themselves as capable of facing challenges, their confidence expands. Even the tiniest step, like saying
“thank you” to the cashier, lays the groundwork for bigger acts of courage down the road. When we give our children space to try, and celebrate their effort, we send a powerful message: I believe in you, and you can do hard things. Struggling to build your child’s confidence?
