This month’s spotlight shines on Michael P., a 55-year-old standout athlete from JESPY House, who has been making waves in both basketball and softball. Nicknamed “The Pitcher King” for his impressive skills on the softball field, Michael has a deep-rooted passion for sports, especially softball, which he claims as his best sport. “I’ve loved soft ball pretty much my entire life,” he shares, drawing inspi ration from MLB stars Pete Alonso and Aaron Judge.

Michael’s athletic prowess is evident in his achievements. He proudly show cases silver medals won at the 2024 Special Olympics Summer Games and gold medals from 2023. In basketball, his team bagged silver at the 2024 Spring Games and bronze in 2023, highlighting his versatility and dedica tion to sports. Currently, Michael is actively participating in the Special Olympics 2025 North Basketball League and the Special Olympics 2025 Softball League, with ambitions to excel in the upcoming Summer Games. When he’s not on the field, Michael enjoys swimming, attending sporting events, visiting the beach, and roller skating, keeping his lifestyle vibrant and active. A key figure in Michael’s journey has been Coach Michael Buerster, whom he credits for improving his communication skills and teaching him to manage various situations during practices and games. “Coach Mike’s easy instruc tions and support have really helped me,” Michael notes, attributing much of his teamwork improvements to his guidance. Michael P.’s story is a testament to lifelong passion and dedication to sports, making him a worthy Athlete of the Month.
