This month, we are excited to spotlight Gavin Vijayvergiya, a talented 12-year-old musician from Maplewood Middle School. Since picking up the acoustic and electric guitar at just 8 years old, Gavin has developed a strong passion for music. GAVIN VIJAYVERGIYA

What he enjoys most about playing is the community that comes with it. “All the people that you meet that play the same instrument and learning from them,” he shares. Inspired by his father, who plays guitar, Gavin is cultivating his skills and is eager to explore new musical horizons. When asked about other instruments he would like to learn, Gavin expressed interest in the sitar and the piano. He is drawn to the sitar for its unique sound, stating enthusiastically, “It’s similar enough to the guitar, and it looks super cool.” The piano captivates him with its wide range of sounds, making it perfect for the songs he loves. Outside of music, Gavin enjoys spending time with friends and family, playing video games, and diving into books. A 6th grader, his favorite subject in school is science, showcasing his diverse interests. Musically, Gavin draws inspiration from the band Radiohead. He admires their sound and the emotions their music evokes, making them a significant influence on his journey. Keep an eye on this budding artist as he continues to develop his craft and share his love for music!
