This month, we shine the spotlight on 15-year-old Danielle “Dani” Rimas, a talented musician from Columbia High School. Dani is a multi instrumentalist who plays the guitar, bass guitar, and piano. Her musical journey began in kindergarten with the piano, followed by the guitar in 7th grade and bass in 8th grade.

“Learning to play an instrument exercises persistence,” she shares. “It can take a while to learn difficult pieces, but it’s also a creative outlet, especially as a songwriter. Music is my form of self-expression.” Dani draws inspiration from her mom’s boyfriend, Nat Grauman, a skilled guitarist, and the renowned singer Phoebe Bridgers. “After watching countless videos of Phoebe Bridgers, I wanted to be more like her,” she explains, reflecting on her desire to expand beyond piano. In addition to her musical pursuits, Dani is a dedicated athlete, running and playing for the CHS Girls JV Tennis Team. She is also actively involved in school activities, serving as vice president of her class and participating in various clubs. Her favorite musician, Noah Kahan, resonates deeply with her. “He can make a metaphor for any emotion I feel,” Dani says, emphasizing the profound impact music has on her life. With aspirations to learn the banjo and drums, Dani’s musical journey is just beginning, and we can’t wait to see where it takes her next!
