GAELIC FOOTBALL ESSEX SHILLELAGHS HOST MEN’S GAELIC FOOTBALL INFO NIGHT AND FREE BBQ

While Gaelic football continues to gain momentum in New Jersey, the Essex Shillelaghs Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) invites men ages 17 and up to attend an informational interest night on Wednesday, August 13, at 7 PM at the Shillelagh Club in West Orange. The evening offers attendees a chance to learn about the formation of a Men’s Gaelic Football Rec League (7v7) and connect with others aiming to bring this energetic, fast-paced sport to Essex County. Whether you’re a former player or just curious about trying something new, all are welcome—no experience needed.

After the info session, guests can enjoy a FREE BBQ and casual meet-and-greet, providing a great opportunity to connect with potential teammates and members of the Order of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh–Essex Division. This Irish American organization preserves and shares Irish traditions and heritage while supporting charitable causes in the region. Gaelic football combines elements of soccer, basketball, and rugby, maintaining deep roots in Irish culture. “We’re excited to see the interest building locally,” said Jim McGuire, chair of the Essex Shillelaghs GAA. “This meeting serves as a great first step toward forming a league and creating another space for Irish sport and culture to thrive in Essex County.”
