by Rural Heritage T he NSFWA 2025 Conference was held in Scottsbluff and Gering, Neb., July 9–12. The conference’s top feature was a start-to-finish demonstration of haying with horses and mules. The conference also featured presentations by various speakers about horse-drawn wagons, coaches, service wagons, the importance of buggies
and surreys, firefighting equipment, army wagons, and chuckwagons. Doug Hansen of Hansen Wheel and Wagon Shop gave a presentation about identifying horse drawn vehicles and estimating their date of manufacture. National Park Service Lead Interpreter from nearby Scottsbluff National Monument gave a presentation on the hardships faced by travelers on the Oregon Trail.
