DEAR PROSPECTIVE ROSEHILL CHRISTIAN SCHOOL FAMILY
At Rosehill Christian School, we sincerely believe that our children deserve to be valued, welcomed and known. RCS offers a Christian, college preparatory education for students from Preschool to 12th-grade, providing opportunities for every child to grow spiritually, intellectually, emotionally and physically. Our mission states the goal of RCS best: Rosehill Christian School provides excellence in Christ centered education as an extension of the Christian home. Every day at RCS, there are opportunities to grow and learn as children blossom into the adults
God designed them to be. With Christ at the center, we partner with parents to prepare children for the challenges of this world, so they fulfill their God-given purpose and reach their potential. If you would like your child to be a part of this exciting journey, we would be delighted to talk with you to see if Rosehill Christian School is the best fit for your children and family. We consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to minister to you and your family at Rosehill Christian School. Sincerely, Lauren Dyal Head of School

DEAR EAGLE FAMILY
Welcome to the first-ever edition of the Rosehill Christian School VYPE Media magazine. We are appreciative of VYPE and all they do for high school sports in Texas. This magazine highlights our students in Athletics and Fine Arts and their accomplishments over the past year. It’s a blessing to serve with some amazing administrators, teachers, coaches, students and parents who love the Lord and work together to make Rosehill Christian a very special and family-oriented place. We want to win and excel in athletics but only if done with class, character and humility, while honoring our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Billy Graham quote, “A coach will impact more people in one
year than the average person will in an entire lifetime” rings so true here at our school. We have incredible coaches who build strong relationships and faith and character into our student athletes each and every day. It’s our prayer that our athletes will excel inside and outside of the athletic arena and in their Christian walk in the years ahead. We appreciate and love our Eagle family and the great support we receive each and every year. Back-to-back Henderson Cup wins as the best 3A school in TAPPS is a testimony of the excellence of all who are a part of our school. Blessings and Go Eagles! Steve Krantz Director of Athletics

\\ By Matthew Ogle COOPER REFLECTS ON RENOWNED CAREER AT RCS FOLLOWING RETIREMENT AN ERA END OF
ROSEHILL CHRISTIAN IS FACED WITH A BITTERSWEET FAREWELL TO A LEGEND IN THEIR ATHLETICS’ PROGRAM. After a career that spanned two decades, earning 265 wins, 15 playoff appearances, 4 district titles, and 2 state championships, Coach Robert Cooper decided to retire at the conclusion of this year’s baseball season. He will be sorely missed, considering he quite literally built the RCS powerhouse from the ground up. “I first began coaching here in 2003 and none of this stuff (baseball facilities) was here – there was just an old cow pasture out back,” said Cooper. “We started a team that needed work to begin with, but since about 2012, I think we (Rosehill Christian) have become the gold standard for TAPPS 3A. “We’ve been competitive year in and year out, and the school has been great to us. It’s been fun – it was a good time.” Throughout his tenure at Rosehill Christian, Cooper led the Eagles to prominence – highlighted by consecutive State Championships in 2016 and 2017. “I have a lot of fond memories of that class (of 2018) that won
there’s a way to live your life – to be a kind, genuine person. “When you go across those lines, you’d better be competitive and give it your all – but at the end of the season, what have you learned? I find that out when I see these players years later, who are good all-around people and now parents and spouses. I know that Rosehill Christian – all the teachers and coaches – played a part in that. That’s what’s important.”
me, but I get to know their families and their siblings. Because it’s a small school, you really connect more and they become part of your extended family.” What was the lesson that this teacher and coach wanted to imbue his students with during his time at the school? “I’ve tried to teach them that what they do matters,” he said. “We’re a Christian school, so we’ll obviously teach them the gospel and the love of Christ. But also,
Prior to his final season, Cooper acknowledged what Rosehill Christian has meant to him. The answer still resonates, today. I’ve been here 20 years and I consider myself a teacher first,” Cooper said. “I teach history and I teach the Bible, through all different levels. The relationships that I have with some of my former players and students have been great. “I get to work with these kids for four years at a time, and they probably get tired of
it all in those two seasons,” he said. “In the first one, we played at Baseball USA and the players led all these elementary school kids out, and they asked for their autographs after the win – it was a great memory. In 2017, it was a little more difficult because everybody knew we were good, but the guys came through and won it again. “I’ve been coaching for about 30 years, and championships are hard to come by. When you get one, it’s something special.”

So, what is his routine as he prepares to take flight? “I just look up in the sky and say a little prayer, then I start my approach and take off,” he said. “It’s a simple as that.”
of interest,” he said. “That is where I’m headed this Fall… Troy University in Alabama to jump. I’m going to compete as hard as I can and see how far it takes me.”

AND THE TAPPS CLASS 3A ATHLETE OF THE YEAR GOES TO… AJ Wilder has been the Big Man on Campus at Rosehill Christian School since his arrival four years ago. The Class of 2023 star earned second-team, all state honors in football as a receiver, running back and linebacker. On the hardwood, he was a high-flying forward Furthermore, he was a star in the classroom, earning Academic all-state honors as well. Then came the track season. “I went into Coach Dixon’s office before the season started and told him I wasn’t going to run track this year,” Wilder said. “He just looked at me and said, ‘okay, whatever you want to do’.” The track season started, and his teammates were all working out right behind the school. He got the itch. “I missed it,” he laughed. “I think Coach knew I would be back. It was a reverse psychology-thing. The first meet I broke my person best in the long jump and away I went.” “Away he went” is an understatement. The senior broke the State long jump record (23-8.5 feet) and set the school records in the long jump, 100 meters, 200 meters and 4x100 relay, respectively. But the work wasn’t done. and earned a second team, all-district nod.

\\ By Matt Malatesta THREE-SPORT STAR LOVES TO COMPETE MERCY HAVE
ROSEHILL CHRISTIAN IS HOME TO ONE OF THE MOST PROLIFIC TAPPS ATHLETES IN THE STATE OF TEXAS. Mercy Freeman was recently named the TAPPS 3A Female Athlete of the Year in May after earning first-team, all state honors in basketball; second-team, all-state honors in volleyball and had a tremendous junior year on the oval for track and field. “We are very competitive as a family,” Freeman laughed. “It’s healthy, though. When we were kids, we would be in the park and my parents would set up an obstacle course for me and my brothers and we would race for hours. It’s always been like that.” The three-sport athlete recognizes a common thread in her athletic prowess. “I thought about this and I’m always jumping,” she said. “In volleyball I’m going for the block or kill; in basketball I’m jumping for rebounds and in track, well you know? Jumping is my thing. I love practicing with my team in volleyball and basketball, but when I’m practicing jumps in track… I’m in my zone. I’m always trying to get better and it never gets old.” She suffered an ankle injury during the track season, which limited her dominance but the Eagles still finished second at the State Meet. The basketball team reached the State Finals and the volleyball team reached the State Semis. Another common thread for Freeman? Winning.

VOLLEYBALL
RCS VOLLEYBALL HAS BEEN A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH IN RECENT MEMORY AND 2022 WAS NO EXCEPTION. A YEAR REMOVED FROM REACHING THE TAPPS 3A STATE SEMIS, THE EAGLES RETURNED TO THE COURT AS DYNAMIC AS EVER, FEATURING THE LIKES OF RETURNING STARS SAVANNAH JENNINGS, BRYLEE KOBZA, JUNIOR KALEIGH FRAZIER AND MORE. UNDER THE DIRECTION OF COACH MALLORY JACKS, ROSEHILL CHRISTIAN DOMINATED THROUGHOUT THE FALL TO FINISH THE REGULAR SEASON 24-5-1, WHICH INCLUDED AN UNDEFEATED (14-0) DISTRICT RECORD AND A TRIP TO THE PLAYOFFS. THE EAGLES WOULD THEN PROCEED TO BREEZE PAST NORTHLAND CHRISTIAN (3-0) AND KEYSTONE (3-1) BEFORE ULTIMATELY BEING DEFEATED BY ROUND ROCK (3-1) IN THE STATE SEMIFINALS. GIVEN ALL THE TALENTED JUNIORS WHO’LL BE STEPPING UP IN THE UPCOMING SEASON, RCS WILL REMAIN A TEAM WORTH FEARING.

CROSS COUNTRY
RCS COMPETED IN THEIR FINAL MEET OF THE FALL, THEY DIDN’T DISAPPOINT. INDIVIDUALLY, VUONG FINISHED THE 5K IN FIFTH PLACE WITH A TIME OF 18:14, WHILE JACKSON WYNN CAME IN 13TH (19:06), FOLLOWED SHORTLY AFTER BY ETHAN ZAVALA IN THE NO. 15 SPOT (19:15). AFTER ALL THE SCORES HAD BEEN TALLIED, ROSEHILL CHRISTIAN TOOK BRONZE WITH A COMPOSITE SCORE OF 110.
THE EAGLES WERE FLYING YET AGAIN, WHEN IT WAS TIME FOR THE CROSS COUNTRY TEAM TO COMPETE. GIVEN HOW MANY TOP FINISHES THEY ENJOYED DURING THE REGULAR SEASON, IT DIDN’T COME AS A SHOCK WHEN SEVERAL ROSEHILL CHRISTIAN RUNNERS, WHICH INCLUDED JONATHAN VUONG, ETHAN ZAVALA AND SENIOR JACKSON WYNN, QUALIFIED FOR THE TAPPS-3A STATE MEET IN WACO, TX. There are some things she can’t do and there are some things I can’t do. We work on those things together and that gets us both better.” Caitlin has a defensive mentality, while Madison is more of a ball-handler and scorer. One thing they do share is their inspiration… their parents. Their mother played basketball at Southern University and their father played at Mississippi State in the 1990s. “They push us, but they’re also there to just give advice,” Madison said. “I’ll ask about my shot and they will say, ‘try this or that’. UNFORTUNATELY, THEY WERE NARROWLY DEFEATED IN A 57-52 HEART-BREAKER AGAINST A FORMIDABLE LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN TEAM. THE 2022-23 SEASON SAW RCS GIRLS HOOPS TAKE THEIR GAME TO ANOTHER LEVEL. UNDER THE DIRECTION OF COACH STEVE KRANTZ, THE EAGLES SEEMED NEARLY UNSTOPPABLE ON THE COURT, FINISHING THE REGULAR SEASON WITH A 19-2 OVERALL RECORD TO TAKE THE NO. 2 IN THEIR DISTRICT (5-1).
