Pottsboro Area Chamber of Commerce 2022-2023

G olf came to Texas early in the last century. Houston had a course in 1906 and the Houston Country Clformed in 1908, while the Dallas Country Club had a course in 1912. Sherman’s Woodlawn Country Club opened a course in 1916, and in Denison, the Rod and Gun Club added a nine hole course to their property in 1922. These first nine became the back nine when the course expanded to 18-holes in 1978. TANGLEWOOD The Tanglewood Resort in Pottsboro features a 7,000-yard course, with fairways of Bermuda grass and greens of Diamond Zoysia. Tanglewood was the first facility in the country to install this eco-friendly Zoysia grass hybrid. Created by a team at Texas A&M University, the grass thrives in the dry heat of Texas summers and provides golfers a great putting surface year-round. The Tanglewood course is open for membership and daily fee players. It also features the 19th Hole Grill and Bar. STONE CREEK Stone Creek Golf Club arrived in Grayson County in 2007. The 7,428-yard, 18-hole course was designed by Cal Olson. “We like to think of Stone Creek as the Cadillac of golf courses in Grayson County,” said General Manager Aaron Reynolds. “It’s a daily fee course that offers memberships as well, so it’s just a matter of how much someone wants to play and what matches their goals.”
