LOCUST FIRE DEPARTMENT T he Locust Community Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1971 as a nonprofit, public safety organization and is responsible for covering 15 square miles.

The agency is led by Chief Timothy Thomas and is staffed by a team of 12 volunteer firefighters. “We’ve got people here willing to put their personal lives to the side and run and help somebody else when they’re in need,” says Thomas. The group responds to 100-200 calls per year, consisting of fires, medical calls, vehicle crashes and other emergencies. Firefighters use a lineup of five vehicles to tend to calls, including an engine, a 3,000-gallon water tender and two brush trucks. “For any major fire, we always have all four area departments — Locust, Pottsboro Preston and NTRA — come in,” says Thomas. “Between the four of us, we can get a real strong group of folks to turn out.” The Locust Volunteer Fire Department is located at 116 Spincaster Lane in Pottsboro and can be reached by email at locustvfd@gmail.com We would always love to have our community involved in what we’re doing, to know what kind of services we provide them and to understand how they can help support us.”
