and support fine arts education, and the foundation continues to look for ways to expand partnerships with schools and programs in our community. And with nearly ten years under their belt, the board has big things planned. “Our goal is to create an endowment fund of $250, 000,” said TimCampbell, President of the Maggie Bertram Foundation. “While our annual grassroots fundraising events will continue, we believe this fund will ensure our mission far into the future.” A future born out of the loss of someone special. TheMaggie BertramFoundation for the Fine Arts was started back in 2013 after its namesake, a young girl of 16, was killed in a car accident. Mairead Anne (Maggie) Bertram was an aspiring artist, musician and dancer. It seemed fitting that the first school to receive financial support from the foundation was Maggie’s alma mater, Holy Family Parish School in Peoria. Holy Family is also the site of the foun dation’s signature event, Irish Fest. It’s a family-friendly evening held each March that honors Maggie and her love of all things Irish. “It’s a joyous celebration that includes a fish fry, silent auction, Irish music and, of course, Irish dancers. It’s truly a special evening for the people who loved Maggie or who are just getting to know her,” said Stacie Bertram, foundation board member and Maggie’s mother. “She would love it!” DID YOU KNOW? The Maggie Bertram Foundation for the Fine Arts also provides a grant to a grade school in Peoria’s sister city - Clonmel, Ireland. The foundation underwrites a pro gram at the local grade school, Gaelshoil Chluanlin Meal, for the students to learn traditional Irish dancing. For many years, Maggie was a student at the Flynn School of Irish Dance in West Peoria.
