In leading Carver Community Center, Proctor has implemented programs to meet the community right where they are.

“The programs she has created are designed to attract families, build relationships and trust, and journey through life with them,” said her nominator. “Through these programs, families are able to gain access to resources to thrive and live above the poverty level. Jacobie has worked diligently to receive grants to cover the cost of many programs to allow families to receive them for free.”

During the peak of the pandemic, Proctor worked to es tablish a safe space for the community, and with only one other staff member. “In those years, Jacobie implemented tech-savvy sources for the community to have access to for school and work,” said her nominator. “Fast forward to today, Jacobie has been able to double her staff numbers more than three times.” Meanwhile, Proctor is an active member of the National Association of Colored Women’s Club. She also is a part of the Arts Partners Committee. At home, she is Mom to six children, attending their various activities and balancing their schedules while still managing Carver Center. Childhood ambition: “Obstetrician.” Advice to 20-year-old self: “My advice would be, ‘You don’t know everything and that’s okay.’” Hobbies: “Baking, singing karaoke, and beading waist beads.” Unknown to colleagues: “No one in my office knows that I was captain of my high school dance team.” Bucket list priority: “To visit all seven wonders of the world.” Best advice: “Maintain my process.” Biggest challenge: “The biggest challenge I’ve had to overcome is doubting myself because of what others think.”
